The European Route of Historic Theatres, currently the biggest culture project in Europe, is holding its Conference 2014 in Hvar on the island of Hvar (Croatia) from 21 to 23 May. In Hvar, situated off the coast of Split, one can find the oldest communal theatre space in Europe, the “Theatre in the Arsenal”, dating
back to 1612. Representatives from theatres, theatre museums and cities from 15 countries, taking part in the European Route project, will discuss „How to prepare historic theatres for the future“ and the further development of the European Route.
The programme includes talks on the development of Drottningholms Slottsteater (1776) and Ystads Theater (1894), both in Sweden, and the planned development of the Teatru Manoel (1732) in Valetta, Malta, on the future air-conditioning for the Teatro all’Antica (1590) in Sabbioneta, Italy, and the results of the EcoVenue in Britain as well as a round table on the further development of the Arsenal and Theatre in Hvar. The conference will also have a look at the digital future of historic theatres and on the upcoming touring exhibition which is part of the project.
During the conference, the new Adriatic Route to selected historic theatres in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro will be inaugurated. It will be accessible online from 22 May, on the same website where the programme of the conference can be found: www.europeanroute.info
